Jack speaks of a baby elephant. When an elephant is born, its trainer ties a heavy rope around one of its ankles. The rope only allows the elephant to travel a very short distance. The baby elephant will try to break away from the rope, but it can’t. Consequently, the baby elephant tries less and less to break away and eventually gives up. Naturally, the elephant grows into a gigantic, strong animal and if motivated enough, could easily break the rope and trample what ever it were to walk on. Instead, this huge animal stays within its limits with a little rope holding it back.
How different is the elephant from us humans and the limitations we place ourselves? In sales and business, when we think, “I can’t sell to people like that” or, “I’ll never be able to make enough money in this business to afford that house”, you will be absolutely correct. If you say you can’t , you can’t. If you say I can , you will.
Don’t be like that elephant, in sales and in life. You are strong enough to break that rope.
