Love to get high school students thinking about their success.

About the goal setting workshop for high school students last week, the Principal wrote, "Thank You... for the Goal Setting Presentation you provided our sophomore class at Middletown High School South. It provided them with a perspective that will be helpful for their success. Several students informed me later in the day that they enjoyed the presentation and it “got them thinking”, which was our goal." Love to get high school students thinking about their success.

What "film" are you watching?

Imagine if someone collected film on Derek Jeter's performance while playing short stop for the New York Yankees.  Except this film contained only images of moments when Derek struck out, grounded into a double-play, popped up or made an error on the field.  Suppose someone who knows nothing about Derek Jeter were to watch just this film.  What impression would be made? 

Even a baseball player that performs at the caliber of Derek Jeter (future hall of famer, all star, all time Yankee hit leader and world champion) strikes out once in a while. 

Someone on my sales staff recently asked me how I stay so focused all of the time.  He also asked, " Doesn’t it bother you when you have a bad day or you lose a sale to the competition?"  My answer was this:  I’ve decided which film I’m going to watch."

I’m going to start my day by visualizing great outcomes on all my sales calls.  Then I’m going to treat each person that gives me a "no", as just one more person closer to one that gives me a "yes".

Dispatching for Dollars

I was taught many years ago that you can successfully “recession-proof” your in-home services and contracting business by building up your service contracts.  Having service and maintenance technicians provide precision tune-ups or servicing to contracted customers’ systems or products will build a customer base and provide steady cash flow for your company.  But there is one piece of this business survival system that often gets overlooked — the dispatch procedure.  Read on.

5 Personality Traits of Action-Oriented People

I'm an action-oriented person by nature.  I take on big goals and go after them full force.  I don't like to take too much time to plan and prepare.  I believe in the "ready-fire-aim" approach to life.  I'm alright with making mistakes and fixing them after the fact.  I believe it builds character.

Here are 5 personality traits of action-oriented people:

1. Doers:  They like to get things done.  They don't care if they make a mistake; they prefer to get the ball rolling and re-adjust their aim or strategy after they see results. 
2. Leaders: They like to be in charge, sometimes with an "It's my way or the highway" approach.  They may even be stubborn or arrogant in certain situations.
3. Strong and Decisive:  As a result, they tend to take on leadership roles along with great responsibility.
4. Cheerful and Optimistic:  They're comfortable to be around and often characetized as the "Life of the Party".   They might "promise the world" because it's the friendly thing to do.
5. Impatient:  They might get impatient with other people who aren't like them.  Yet many action-oriented people get along  well with process-oriented people because they are able to take charge.

The Power of Referrals

This week, from Monday Sept. 28th through Saturday Oct. 3rd, I sold over $86,000 worth of furnace/boiler/a/c replacements.  A little over 43%, $37,500 to be exact, came through my own networking and referrals.  I cannot say enough about the power of self-generated referrals.
